Five songs that will ever live with you
Lata Mangeshkar and legendary singer Mohd Rafi lend their voices to this song from the 1963 movie “Taj Mahal.” Over the next years, the duo offer number of iconic songs for over a decade.
The Amitabh Bachchan-starring film “Muqaddar ka Sikandar” hit Indian theatres in 1978. Rekha appeared in the movie in the mesmerising song “Salam-e-ishq meri jaan zara qubool kar lo,” which was performed by Lata Mangeshkar and instantly became a hit. The song is regarded as legendary and is still remembered today. Kishore Kumar was her singing partner on the song.
On Republic Day in 1963 in New Delhi, Lata Mangeshkar sang this poignant song by Pradeep about the sacrifices made by soldiers in front of the then-President S. Radhakrishnan and the then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru and the rest of the stadium’s attendees were brought to tears by her performance of the song. Especially during Independence and Republic Days, the song is unintentionally played nowadays.
Pyaar hua ikraar hua:
This lovely and enormously well-liked song is from the 1955 film “Shree 420” by actor-director Raj Kapoor. The song was performed in duo by great singers Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar.
Aaj fir jeene ki tamanna hai:
Another of the singer’s timeless songs was the number-one hit with Waheeda Rahman. She received a Filmfare nomination for her performance of the song in the 1965 film “Guide.”
Mangeshkar, who is regarded as one of the best playback singers in Indian cinema, has won numerous film accolades and distinctions, including the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the Padma Bhushan, and various National Film Awards.
