Disney’s beloved animated musical “The Little Mermaid” has released its live-action remake’s trailer and poster. Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy unveiled the trailer during ABC’s coverage of the 95th Annual Academy Awards. Directed by visionary Rob Marshall, the movie will debut exclusively in theaters nationwide on May 26, 2023.
“The Little Mermaid” follows the adventurous and free-spirited mermaid, Ariel, who longs to explore the world beyond the sea. Despite the rules forbidding mermaids from interacting with humans, Ariel falls for Prince Eric during a visit to the surface. To gain a chance to experience life on land, she makes a dangerous deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, putting her life and father’s kingdom at risk.
Halle Bailey of “grown-ish” fame stars as Ariel in the film, alongside Jonah Hauer-King (“A Dog’s Way Home”) as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs (“Hamilton”) voicing Sebastian, Awkwafina (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay (“Luca”) as Flounder, and more. The cast also includes Oscar-winning Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”) as King Triton and two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”, “Bridesmaids”) as Ursula.
