Oscars 2024 Nominations: Voting Underway!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has initiated the voting process to determine the nominations for the 96th Oscars. The voting period is set to conclude at 5 pm PT on January 16, and the Academy will announce the nominations on January 23, as stated in their official announcement. The Academy shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, “Voting for #Oscars nominations has officially begun. Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 23rd.” The 96th Oscars are set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 10. For the second consecutive year, the Academy has opted for the second Sunday in March for the awards ceremony, signaling a return to normalcy after the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The ultimate voting phase to determine this year’s Oscar winners will kick off on February 22 at 9 am PT, coming to a close on February 27 at 5 pm PT.

The upcoming awards season is poised to highlight exceptional accomplishments in the realm of cinema, as Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” compete for top honors.

With close to 10,000 eligible voting members across 18 branches, the Academy employs a distinctive system where each branch nominates for its corresponding category. In this process, editors nominate editors, actors recognize actors, and so on. However, it’s worth noting that four branches presently do not represent specific awards categories. These branches encompass casting directors, executives, marketing/public relations, and the recently established production and technology.
