FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week : Ode to Swinging 70s

“Caged Kaleidoscope” can be summarized as Retro spunk with a modern easy twist. The feather prints celebrate the vivacious spirit of the fluttering souls and the geometric abstract grid captures the giddy reality of trapped optimism.

Abstract surface ornamentation, linear cords, fluid beads are explored in dramatic formation to mimic the confused state of the obstruction. This collection is indeed the most special, crafted out of love to salute all the things we use to take for granted and most importantly capturing the song of freedom, the caged birds’ chirp.

FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week: “Studio 54” Comes Alive In Siddartha Tytler’s Line

Siddartha Tytler showcases his collection “Studio 54” at FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week’s joint phygital, seasonless fashion week, slated from March 16-21, 2021.

“Studio 54” is inspired by the iconic club of the same name where expression, dance, and fashion were about the individual. This season, he invented six characters to portray individual aspects of a human being known as the “Tytler Army”.

David – David is gender fluid and loves his expression in fashion.
Lucifer – Lucifer loves to turn towards the dark side of fashion and loves to experiment with goth and the emo movement in fashion.
Mary – Mary is our plus-size girl who doesn’t give a damn about what the world thinks and we love her for it.
Butterfly – Butterfly derived her inspiration from the Harajuku movement on the streets of Japan.
Ming Lee – Ming Lee is very sexually expressive and takes no nonsense from anybody.
Candy – Candy has a fabulous body and she loves to flaunt it yet is very coy in her approach.

Silhouettes:

The styles are a reflection of the 80s with tweaks of today. It’s fun, flirty but yet very bold and defines an individual as he/she wants. The silhouettes consist of structural corsets, bodycon dresses, peasant tops, co-ord sets, and tracksuits for her. For him, we have tracksuits, structured suits, bomber jackets, and printed tee shirts.

Hues:

The color palette varies from mustard, blue, black, grey, teal, and whites. The surfacing this year involves a lot of sequins, crystals, and a new computer embroidery making a textile in the fabric itself of faces.

Nidhi Yasha Showcases “The Gypsy’s Wife” At FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week

Nidhi Yasha showcases her latest collection at The Fashion Design Council of India and Lakme Fashion Week’s joint phygital, seasonless fashion week.

The collection titled “The Gypsy’s Wife” inspired by a song by Leonard Cohen by the same name, is an ode to love and longing, and consequently disclaims of all that holds down a free-spirited gypsy woman. Boho-chic in treatment, it celebrates the visceral, sensual, hedonistic spirit of intense loving and reckless abandon, deep, and sometimes dark.

The brand tells this story in its quintessential folkloric language, with all its theatricality. From flirty ruffles, fringes, and rich tassels over sheer layers, dramatic volumes, tell-tale surfaces to tribal and nature-inspired prints creating a perfect medley of florals and geometrics true to the bohemian ethos.

The imagery created is mysterious, intriguing, and intense. Delicate laces compliment the subtle beadwork giving the East European Bohemian, a rich, nomadic, Indian/Central Asian opulence. Embroidered leather corset belts, accentuate the feminine form, unapologetically, whilst motifs taking inspiration from birds, create an interesting dichotomy of confinement and release. NIDHI YASHA

Opulent velvets meet delicate silk charmeuse and diaphanous organzas and chiffons juxtaposed to create an interesting vocabulary for the urban nomad with a vintage soul.

“I have tried to tell this story in the brand’s quintessential folkloric language, with all its theatricality using ruffles, and tiers, velvets and silks, leather and lace and vibrant prints with intense beadwork. I’ve used deconstructed pieces and leftover materials from previous collections and used them to create a whole new vision for the urban nomad with a vintage soul, keeping true to the label’s zero waste endeavor and sustainable practices,” says the designer.

“I’m mighty excited about FDCI and LFW coming together for this joint fashion week, and setting the highest example for solidarity and collaboration during these challenging times,” she concludes.

NEXA Presents Manish Malhotra’S Lastest Collection At FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week

Celebrated Indian designer and couturier of international repute Manish Malhotra will be showcasing his latest collection through a partnership with NEXA for his upcoming collection scheduled to be showcased at FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week on 20^th March.

The couture line promises to present a joyful celebration of moments where social connections and the natural cadence of human conversation take centre stage. It inspires a sense of reminiscence and reflects upon the transient nature of time.

Manish Malhotra’s range will be expansive with kalidars, lehengas, gowns, jackets, shararas, kurtas, palazzos, dupattas, and signature blouses that fits diverse palettes and occasions.

The collection is hued in sorbet and blush shades of bright pink, lilac, grey-blue, beige-gold, powder blue, metallic gold-silver, black-white among many others. It travels from deftly embroidered pieces to two-toned color-blocked silhouettes that journeys from staid classic aesthetics to a more dynamic new-age look of the contemporary times. The embroidery is unexpectedly sharp in geometric orders, giving it an entirely new dimension to the traditional craft of zardozi.

Commenting on the collaboration and the upcoming collection, the master couturier said, “I wanted to bring together a new composition that is balanced in its heterogeneous elements much like the NEXA colours. Where everything exists. The collection is created on the ethos of tradition, but inspired by the present, the new world. A collection that sits firmly with the pandemic-induced preferences but also relatable to our aesthetics and our loyalists. We need to re-write the idea of design, which is not bound to a similar thread of uniformity. Each garment is a new and individual visual expression and explores a possibility of a free monologue, thus establishing a discerning connection with the wearer.”

The collection largely pushes the rigid boundaries of traditional wedding couture and flex with rather more fashion-forward and innovative materials, silhouettes, and patterns in oversized jackets, color-blocked lehengas, and sculptured gowns in pure two-tone silks, dupion silks, gold silks, organzas, crepes, and tissue fabrics.

The collection also features Manish Malhotra Jewellery that compliments the collection in its sartorial finesse. All the jewels are handcrafted in the excellence of pure gold, flat-cut diamonds, rubies, Russian and Zambian emeralds, and pearls.

Reflections : Arpita Mehta Brings A Merger Of Technology And Style At FDCI X LFW

Logitech teamed up with designer Arpita Mehta for a joint seasonless grand fashion and technological extravaganza by the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week March 16-21.

“Reflections”

The Logitech concept inspired Arpita Mehta to bring forth a collection called “Reflections” that explored the unique style elements within women. There were four distinct strong prints curated with care for this unique association.

Starting with florals for the versatile woman, Arpita moved to abstract prints for the bold strong user, then onto the whimsical leaf design for the boho-chic woman and Arpita finally ended with the butti print for the understated dresser.

The summer palette came alive for the collection and comprised a variety of soothing hues, which was also divided into a quartet of shades. There were neutral sand tones, and relaxing ocean colours that brought in variations of summer blue, yellow of the mango, and the flame red inspired by the setting sun.

Set against the waves of the summer sea, Arpita’s beach-cum- resort collection was a fantasy of prints and silhouettes that were also cleverly reflected on the Logitech keyboard.

Arpita kept the silhouettes in her characteristic style. There were easy, breezy, flowing, sheer, tiered skirts, swirling capes, comfortable kaftans, relaxed, slouchy, summer pants and cute bralettes. Strappy maxis with tasselled décolleté, the bralette and slashed sheer beach skirt, languid kaftans detailed with tantalizing fringes and tassels along with Arpita’s signature draped sari and tiny blouse in soft prints, were eye-catchers. Mirror work was discreetly brought in to edge the beach robes. Shades of blueprints on white gave the ruffled blouse, pre-stitched saris, beach covers, and light summer jackets a holiday/resort vibe. The crossover mini splashed with sea blueprint and multiple fringes gave a fun element to the garment.

Shades of sun yellow in an abstract print on a sheer base lit up the draped skirt-saris, shararas with tiny choli and voluminous kaftan. The colour red entered for a sleek, slim maxi skirt and luxe mirror work jacket – both ideal for an afternoon brunch, while the will-power maxi with faux sleeves will work for sunset soirées.

The detailing was restricted to suede fringes, tassels, and cowries that added a touch of feminine glamour to the holiday, resort-style ensembles.

The coming months will surely prove very fashionable for stylistas when they opt for Arpita Mehta’s fashion-forward looks from her “Reflections” collection in collaboration with Logitech.

After the grand collaboration announcement last season, designer Masaba Gupta is set to showcase her latest collection inspired by boAt, at the upcoming joint Phygital edition of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week.

The event is scheduled to be held between 16^th to 21^st March. The limited-edition headphones and earphones designed by Masaba will also be launched simultaneously in the market.

Two Designer Chosen To Showcase For ‘INIFD Presents GENNEXT’ At FDCI x LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

The 31^st batch of the coveted talent discovery program – GenNext, has announced two winners who will be showcasing at the upcoming FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week.

The two winning designers Label Rahul Dasgupta by Rahul Dasgupta and Raffughar by Wajahat Rather were chosen through a virtual jury selection process. The selected designers will be presenting their creations at ‘INIFD presents GenNext’ an eagerly awaited show at the joint fashion week being organized by Lakmé, RISE Worldwide (formerly IMG Reliance); and Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), scheduled to be held between 16^th to 21^st March 2021.

Having been through a competitive selection process, the winning GenNext designers were then taken through a series of Masterclasses over three days with Sabina Chopra, the Lakmé Fashion Week team as well as industry experts.

Announcing the latest batch of GenNext designers, Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé said, “Discovering new talent is a key pillar of Lakmé Fashion Week and the GenNext program that has help propel great talent in the industry. So, looking forward to the 31st batch of GenNext designers showcasing their collections this season.”
