Neha Bhasin is an Indian playback singer and songwriter. Known for her deep voice and beautiful looks, her works range from Bollywood and Tollywood, to independent Indian pop and Punjabi folk music. The two time Filmfare award winner turns 40 today. Don’t let her young looks fool you. On this occasion, here are 5 of her best songs that will always be bopped to.
Mere Brother Ki Dhulan (2011)
This is the most Neha Bhasin song out there. It always tops her playlists, as it should! Listening to it while starting to write this article, this robust and energetic song sliding into a rock vibe territory, is composed by Sohail Sen. Written by Irshad Kamil and Sohail Sen, both of them also perform with Neha. Katrina Kaif matches the punk vibe in the music video and no one could’ve done a better job with the song, than Neha Bhasin.
An out-of-this-world ethereal song performed alongside exceptional Mohit Chauhan, ‘Kuchh Khaas’ is a staple song in the late 2000s and early 2010s playlists. It’s the perfect, slightly sensual, and low-key psychedelically angelic song to listen to, at midnight. The song is from Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie that gives a reality check about the glitz and glamour of the modeling industry. Produced by the legendary duo Salim-Sulaiman, who ruled that era, the lyrics of the song are written by Irfan Siddiqui, along with the aforementioned duo.
The era is 1980s Calcutta, and the setting is that of a burlesque. The song is a masterpiece. Given how deep Neha’s voice is, the falsetto harmonies heard in this song are beautiful. Alongside the great Bappida (Bappi Lahiri), the song is also performed and written by Irshad Kamil and Sohail Sen. Sen did an amazing job with the retro production of the song, while Priyanka Chopra took us back in time with the music video and evocative ensembles.
Tiger Zinda Hai
Swag Se Swagat
The title of the song is apt because it is, indeed, full of swag. Paired with Vishal Dadlani’s robust voice and the music video shot in beautiful Greece, the song belongs to Salman Khan’s successful ‘Tiger’ movie franchise. The song starts with the infamous ‘Tiger’ tune, too. It’s a powerhouse-packed kind of a track. It’s produced by a yet another ultimate duo Vishal-Shekar, written by them, Irshad Kamil and Julius Packiam, and performed by several artists.
Jag Ghommeya (Female Version)
This song is from a yet another Salman Khan starrer. It’s more mellow and folksy than any other song in the list. The kind of song you reminisce and cry to. It’s written and produced by the penultimately mentioned duo Vishal-Shekhar. Bhasin’s voice estranges you from your present setting and places you in between the stacked-up production tracks’ feels. Let it be a song with a hard, punk-rock vibe or a fragile vibe.
