On Monday, producer Karan Johar revealed that Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi will be the leads in Shazia Iqbal’s romance drama Dhadak 2, sharing this exciting news with a teaser.
Karan Johar took to Instagram to announce, “Presenting Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi & Triptii Dimri, directed by Shazia Iqbal. #Dhadak2 hits cinemas on 22nd November 2024,” sharing the news along with a video.
At the heart of the film lies the tale of Vidhi (portrayed by Triptii) and Nilesh (played by Siddhant), deeply entwined in love despite hailing from contrasting castes. Their affection challenges societal norms, encountering vehement resistance and disapproval from the community.
Siddhant’s voice echoes, “Vidhi, in your dreams, there’s no space for me.” He grapples with the weight of societal barriers. Triptii’s voice responds, “Then, Nilesh, enlighten me on what I should do with these emotions?” Their dialogue encapsulates the turmoil of their love against societal constraints.
Amidst the narrative, the background score amplifies the poignant contrast in their social standings, highlighting the hurdles obstructing their union. Inspired by Mari Selvaraj’s 2018 Tamil drama Pariyerum Perumal, which starred Kathir and Anandhi, the storyline delves into the complexities of love amidst societal divides. Produced by Karan Johar, Umesh Kr Bansal, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Meenu Aroraa, and Somen Mishra, Dhadak 2 also features Saad Bilgrami in a pivotal role. The film is scheduled to grace the screens on November 22nd.
Dhadak, the original film directed by Shashank Khaitan and jointly brought to life by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, and Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, with sponsorship from Zee Studios, served as an adaptation of Nagraj Manjule’s acclaimed 2016 Marathi film Sairat. Headlined by Ishaan Khatter and the debutante Janhvi Kapoor, Dhadak beautifully narrated the romance between Madhu Bhagla and Parthavi Singh Rathore, captivating audiences with its release on July 20, 2018.
