Diljit Dosanjh, the multi-talented actor-singer, is known for his humor and honesty, and he recently shared an amusing anecdote that left everyone in stitches. During a media interaction at the trailer launch of his latest Punjabi film, “Jatt and Juliet 3,” Diljit recounted a memorable incident involving a blank cheque and a persuasive producer.
A History of Differences
Diljit began by explaining his initial reluctance to join the third installment of the “Jatt and Juliet” series. He had unresolved issues with Darshan Grewal, the producer of the franchise. “When ‘Jatt and Juliet 1’ was being made, Darshan Singh Grewal — the producer — and I had problems with each other. So, when the offer for ‘Jatt and Juliet 3’ came to me, I wanted to go and reject it in person because of our history,” Diljit explained.
An Unexpected Proposal
Intent on turning down the role, Diljit went to Grewal’s office to deliver his refusal in person. However, the meeting took an unexpected turn. “When I reached his office, he signed a blank cheque in filmy style and told me, ‘Paaji, fill the amount, I want to do a film with you.’ I didn’t foresee this,” Diljit recounted, clearly amused by the recollection.
Strategic Consultation
Caught off guard by the blank cheque, Diljit sought advice from his manager. “I took my manager at the time aside and discussed, ‘Now what do we do? We cannot refuse this now,’” he said. They decided to check the highest fees charged in the industry, which belonged to Gurdas Maan. Diljit then wrote that amount on the cheque, hoping to discourage the producer.
A Surprising Response
To further his strategy, Diljit included the Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) in the amount. However, Grewal was not deterred. “He replied, ‘Add another one lakh to the amount and sign the film,’” Diljit said, laughing at the memory. This gesture of adding more to the sum left Diljit with little choice but to agree to the project.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
“Jatt and Juliet 3” marks the return of the popular franchise to the silver screen after a 12-year hiatus. The trailer, released on June 11, has already generated significant buzz.
