Disney announced on Thursday that “Moana 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the Oscar-nominated film, will grace theaters on November 27. Accompanying the announcement was a first-look teaser and a captivating still from the upcoming animation.
“Mark your calendars! #Moana2 sails into theaters on November 27, 2024,” Disney Animation announced on X, unveiling a teaser that teases Moana’s voyage into uncharted waters. Notably absent from the teaser is a glimpse of the beloved demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson.
Under the direction of Dave Derrick Jr., “Moana 2” promises to whisk fans away on an exhilarating new journey alongside Moana, Maui, and a crew of unconventional sailors. Summoned by her ancestors, Moana sets sail into the perilous waters of Oceania, venturing into an adventure “unlike any she’s encountered before.”
Disney recently unveiled a first-look image featuring Maui, depicted standing on Moana’s boat alongside supporting characters, as they observe a majestic whale swimming nearby.
Disney CEO Bob Iger highlighted the enduring popularity of the Moana franchise, stating, “We’re thrilled to continue the journey with Moana and Maui in Moana 2, coming to theaters this November.”
The soundtrack for the forthcoming film is crafted by Grammy-winning composers Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, along with Grammy-nominated artist Opetaia Foa’i and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, is confirmed to return to the role for the sequel.
In the 2016 film, viewers embark on a captivating journey alongside Moana, a determined Polynesian teenager, as she sets forth across the vast ocean to break a curse threatening her island. Along the way, Moana forms an unlikely alliance with Maui, confronting numerous challenges and discovering her own identity as a skilled navigator. To restore balance to her community and the ocean itself, Moana resolves to retrieve the heart of Te Fiti, a powerful goddess capable of breathing life into the world.
