HBFF 2019: Inaugurated by superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni

A bevy of South, Bengal and Bangladeshi star descended in the Hyderabad to attend the inauguration of the 6th Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival(HBFF). The Bengalis in Hyderabad society is also going to felicitate Faridur Reza Sagar, noted writer, and film producer from Bangladesh, along with Shri Nagarjuna during the inaugural ceremony of the festival, for their achievements & contributions to the world of art, culture & cinema.

The three-day-long festival has to celebrate the century of Bengali Cinema with the screening of classics by Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha, Goutam Ghosh, Rituparno Ghosh. In this segment titled, “Revisit 100: Silent, Golden, Contemporary era of Bengali Cinema,” is purely intends to revisit the journey of Bengali films through different era, started way back in 1919, with the works of Hiralal Sen. This segment will also inculcate with a panel discussion on the same topic to be presided by the noted film scholar Siladitya Sen.

Talking about this festival Partha Pratim Mallik, the Director of Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival shares, “The 6th edition of HBFF is going to be quite exciting and happening with the inclusion of 3 World Premieres, 1 India Premier, and 9 Hyderabad Premiers. We tried to include as many unreleased films as possible because it is no more a challenge to watch new Bengali releases in Hyderabad, as it was during the inception years of HBFF in 2013-14.  Our aim to present a platform for cultural exchange. Therefore every year we invite other language films. This year our Guest Languages are Telugu, Kashmiri & Urdu, and Hindi. We have received short 7 documentary films across the globe, with a huge number flown in from Iran, USA, Greece, China, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Kurdish language films among other parts of the world.’’

Like every year, the festival will be graced by eminent dignitaries from the world of cinema who will interact with the audience and preside as the jury for critic’s choice awards. The audience opinion will be count for the viewer’s choice awards segment. Also on display will be a number of short films and documentaries from all over the world in the segment “Seed.”
