Bollywood actress Kajol recently shared her perspective on refusing to engage in scenes depicting molestation in films during the Netflix Film Actors’ Roundtable 2023. Reflecting on her past roles in films such as Baazigar (1993), Ishq (1997), and Dushman (1998), where she had to portray such scenes, Kajol expressed discomfort and disturbance associated with such portrayals.
In her own words, Kajol stated, “It has always been my stance as an actor that I will not participate in scenes requiring me to be molested or depicted in a distressing situation. I believe that when we act, we genuinely feel the emotions. We are actors up to a point, but the camera captures honesty. In moments like these, honesty is crucial.”
She continued, “This has been my personal standpoint – that I won’t do it. I feel uneasy when I have to enact scenes of physical abuse or molestation. I’ve done it before, but it’s extremely uncomfortable and disturbing. I don’t think I need to undergo such experiences to prove my prowess as an actor. I can demonstrate my skills in numerous other ways without resorting to this particular experience.”
Switching gears to her professional endeavours, Kajol, who was recently featured in the series The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, and Lust Stories 2, is set to appear alongside Kriti Sanon in the upcoming Netflix exclusive, Do Patti.
