She reminisced about being dispatched to Mexico City shortly after her triumph, at the tender age of 18 and with limited proficiency in English. Seated at a formal dinner, mostly surrounded by men, including her travel manager Barbara, she found herself famished and clueless about how to proceed. Desperately hungry, she leaned over to Barbara, smiling, and whispered, “I’m very hungry.” Barbara’s response? “So are they, and you’re the chief guest; you need to start.”
Sushmita further confessed her bewilderment at navigating the seven-course meal, expressing gratitude for the timely assistance she received from the tourism manager of Mexico, seated beside her. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted feeling extremely out of place, resolving never to find herself in such a predicament again.
